While hygiene and safety have always been a topic of prominence, the ongoing global pandemic has further emphasized its importance. Today, with the outbreak of novel coronavirus and growing awareness of the safety precautions around it – the perceptions of people are changing.

Right from practicing hygiene, social distancing, and wearing a mask to eating nutritionally balanced food, vitamin supplements, and maintaining an active lifestyle – people are adapting to all the measures that promise them a healthy body and a strong immune system to fight against the virus.

The question remains, is safety only a concern today? How and why was it ignored for so long? And most importantly, why is safety the need of the hour?

Let’s find some answers!

Safety measures are important in the fight against the COVID19 virus

Be it the outbreak of H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic in 2009-10 infecting over 1.4 billion people across the globe or the more recent Ebola, the prima facie reason for the spread of these viruses had been the lack of safety measures. With the ongoing pandemic having affected almost 58.7 Million people globally, maintaining safety isn’t just a precautionary measure today, but a necessity. Until the right vaccine is developed to safeguard people against the virus – safety is our only armour against the disease. Otherwise, it shall reach even the most vulnerable ones, making the situation grievous for people at large.

The fight for survival

While a lot of COVID19 debates revolve around the importance of a strong immune system, the reality remains that not all of us are blessed with one. With the advent of so many lifestyle issues and diseases, a lot of us might succumb to the virus with little chance of recovery. Moreover, the effects of the virus aren't just limited to the recovery period. If recent research is to be believed, COVID19 is known to cause a lot of long-term health concerns which one might not recover from.

A Weak Health Infrastructure

As the number of people infected with coronavirus surges, the healthcare systems around the world are faced with the challenge of dealing with the growing number of patients. However, even with the best of technology and science assisting us, the healthcare infrastructure of India and rest of the world isn’t equipped to contain the number of people infected, rendering it impossible for people at large to avail of dedicated treatment that one requires for a healthy recovery from the disease. With the lack of beds in hospitals, limited ventilator systems, unavailability of sufficient medicines and of course, the hunt for the right vaccine – the situation is grievous.
